Hi Jules,
The best spot for your compost pile is in the sun. It's ok if you don't have full sun all day, but a shady and damp spot might make for an anaerobic situation. This will bring unwanted bugs, a bad smell, and your garden litter won't break down properly. So I would recommend a sunnier spot than behind your garage. Happy composting!!

Hi Liz - What a great blog - Thanks for the information about composting. I have a question for you - my husband and I can't figure out where to put our compost pile - do you think it is best to have it in full sun? Is a shady site OK? Our best option (I think!) is behind our garage - but the space is dark and damp. Thanks, Jules

Thanks, Rhoda! I got mine at my local thrift store, but you can find them easily online. I know Kitchen Kapers carries them.
